Our Mission
Low Tides.
Good Vibes.

Our goal is to give kids the best week of their summer. We are here to build confidence, foster a love of the ocean, and show kids that skimboarding is just the beginning of a life full of action sports and outdoor adventure. All while making new friends and keeping it safe, fun, and unforgettable.

The Kayotics Way
The Magic
of Camp
Being at a summer camp as a kid is one of the most memorable experiences a young person can have. And a huge part of what makes it special? The staff. Kids look up to you more than you know. Being cool, friendly, and genuinely fun is not just a nice to have — it is the whole job. Laugh with them. Tell jokes. Be silly and join in. When you make a kid feel comfortable, they open up, try harder, and have more fun. That energy is contagious and it sets the tone for the whole group.
Be Real
with Them
Kids can tell when you are just going through the motions. Show up with real energy, real laughs, and real enthusiasm. The more fun you are having, the more fun they are having.
Find the
Quiet Ones
The shy, quiet kid standing on the edge is always the one most worth spending time with. A little attention and encouragement from you can completely change their week. Make it your mission to put a smile on every face.
Spend Time
with Every Kid
Make sure every camper gets a moment with you — not just the loud ones or the naturally talented ones. Check in, high five, crack a joke. Every single kid deserves to feel seen.
Be Silly.
Join In.
Do not just watch from the sidelines. Jump in the warmup. Celebrate the wipeouts. Be the kind of staff member kids talk about when they get home and say that person was awesome.
Step 01
Before Anyone
Arrives
01
Set Up the Flags
Set up the Kayotics flags at the drop zone — where kids leave bags, sandals, and crocs. A clear spot keeps pickup calm and nothing gets lost.
02
Check the Tides
Know your tidal pools before camp starts. Pick your group spots and have a plan ready before anyone shows up.
03
Wax the Boards
On day 1, new boards need wax applied before the session. Get this done early with volunteer help.
Step 02
Walkout &
Welcome
04
Greet & Attend
Greet everyone and do attendance. Know who is here before anyone moves.
05
Walk Out Together
Watch for kids struggling with boards — the little ones especially. Walk beside them. Crack a joke. That walkout is your first chance to connect.
06
Circle Up
Day 1 gets a longer welcome — skimboarding history, what the week looks like, and what every camper will be doing by Friday.
07
Tides Talk
First thing before skimboarding? Check the tides. How do tides work? The moon! Show them the optimal tidal pools right here at Boundary Bay.
08
Safety Brief
Ankle deep only. No swimming. Watch for shells and barnacles. Yell BOARD when one flies — like fore in golf. All campers attended at all times. Bathroom? Let a coach or volunteer know.
09
Warmup
Group stretches, invite a kid to lead. Light run, chase an instructor, Simon Says. Get them loose and laughing.
Step 03
How We
Teach
First Timers
Never been on a board
Returning Riders
Turns & reading the water
A
Goofy or Regular
Lay boards on dry sand. Ask: does anyone know what goofy and regular means? Demo both. Let them figure out which feels natural.
B
The 1-2 Step
Take 5 steps back, hit play: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and jump — landing sideways on the board. Rewind and replay. Make it playful.
C
Into the Water
Once landing on dry sand feels comfortable, move toward the water. Let the board glide. That first real glide is the moment it clicks.
D
Tow Board
For kids losing enthusiasm, bring in the tow board. Pull them so they can feel what riding feels like. Once they feel that glide, they want to do it on their own.
E
1 by 1 Check-Ins
Walk around 1 by 1. Say "show me where you are at." Always positive — even stepping on a board for the first time deserves a real reaction.
F
Daily Wax Check
Each day ask every camper: how is your board, do you need more wax? Help them apply it. A great moment to connect.
Step 04
Wrapping
Up
10
Round Up Early
Round everyone up 10 to 15 minutes before the session ends. Parents need a calm, organised pickup.
11
Heading In
One staff leads the group back, one staff stays at the back. Head count before you move. Nobody left behind.
12
Leave It Clean
Leave the beach cleaner than you found it. No trash, no boards, no gear left behind. Non-negotiable.

Volunteer
Guide

As a volunteer, here is how you can help out the staff and kids and make a real difference at camp.

Setup & Flags
Before campers arrive, set up the Kayotics flags at the drop zone. Having it ready before anyone shows up makes the whole start of the day smoother.
Attendance
Help coaches take attendance. Making sure every camper is accounted for before anyone heads to the beach is one of the most important jobs of the day.
Carrying Gear
Carry boards, rails, and equipment out. Watch for kids struggling — especially the younger ones. They love it when you walk beside them and make them feel welcome.
First Aid Kit
Carry and keep track of the first aid kit during sessions. Always know where it is. Check in with a coach if you are ever unsure.
Board Waxing
On day 1, help wax all new boards. Each day after, ask campers how their board is feeling and help them re-wax. A great way to connect with each kid.
Head Counts
Help with regular head counts throughout the session, especially during transitions and the walkback. Report to a coach if numbers don't add up.
Bathroom
Volunteers can accompany campers to the bathroom. All campers must be attended at all times. No child goes anywhere alone.
Supervision
Float between groups, keep eyes on campers, cheer kids on, and flag anything unsafe to a coach. Your presence on the beach makes a real difference.
